Her grandfather's MUMFORD family lines info: In seeking the
father of Mary Mumford, born in Va. in abt 1645, there are at least two Edwards
that apply. The first one, the son of Captain Thomas Mumford arriving in VA. on
the First Supply with Captain John Smith in 1607, the other arriving separately
on the ship Thomas and John on 6 June, 1635. I Edward Mumford b. ca 1615,
married Mary WATKINS, and was a son, grandson or relative of Captain Thomas
Mumford . 'Edward Mumford' settled in Gloucester County and later Warwick
County. It is said Edward Mumford was also a landowner in York County. A colonial
Gloucester County, Va. land deed on 25 September 1679, as well as on the 22
November 1682 in Edward's name has been located.
Edward and Mary are believed to have had at least four
children. (Ref: Margaret Ann Butler - 'The Mumford's of Virginia, and of
Northern and Eastern North Carolina'): "1635, June: Edward Mountfort
arrives inVirginia from England on the Thomas and John ship. He is listed as
being 20 years of age. (He may have been the 'Edward Mountfort/Mumford'who
